Earthquake Evacuation

We ask that all parents supply each of their children with an earthquake preparedness kit in case the unfortunate event should occur.

Safety Plan

In the event of a minor earthquake (large enough to cause emotional stress but without the structural damage to the community) the following will be in effect:

  • Be assured the staff will take good care of your child

  • Listen to the radio to determine the extent of damage to the community

  • Follow the plan you developed for reuniting with your child

Pick up your child as soon as it is safe to travel to the school.

In the event of a major earthquake, the following will be in effect:

  • Please, DO NOT call the school

  • Listen to the radio for instructions

  • Be assured that the staff will be giving your child any emergency care that may be needed.  They too are listening to the radio and will be receiving the same instructions as you.

  • DO NOT come to the school unless you are close by and radio reports indicate there is no damage to the city streets and it is okay to drive.

Planned evacuation site:

Quest Community Church – Across the street from the school

Reuniting Parents with Children:

In the event that we do have to evacuate the school the staff will take all children, with their records, to the evacuation site.

A note will be left in a highly visible place so parents know where to pick up their children.

Staff will stay with the children until they are all picked up either by a parent or alternate guardian.

Methods of Communication:

A note with any pertinent information will be posted in a highly visible place at the school and we will send messages via Brightwheel if possible.

If the phones are working and we have not evacuated, we will leave a message on the answering machine for parents.

If the phones are down we will use cell phones to try and reach each parent.
